DSIP is a nine-residue neuropeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) originally isolated from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits in slow-wave sleep. It was named for its ability to enhance delta-EEG activity and sleep spindles after intraventricular infusion 1.

DSIP is one of the classic examples of a small peptide that crosses the blood–brain barrier, and it remains a reference compound in studies of peptide BBB transport 2 and sleep–stress regulation.
