TB-500 is the research designation for synthetic thymosin β4 (or its active fragment, supplied here as the acetate salt). Thymosin β4 is a 43-residue actin-sequestering protein present in almost all cells; its actin-binding motif (LKKTETQ, residues 17–23) is responsible for promoting cell migration and wound repair 2.
Reviews of the basic and clinical literature describe thymosin β4 accelerating dermal, corneal and cardiac repair in animal models and in early clinical trials 1. More recent work shows it limits inflammation by promoting autophagy 3.
