SNAP-8 (acetyl octapeptide-3) is an eight-residue elongation of the hexapeptide Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-3). Both mimic the N-terminus of SNAP-25, competing for a position in the SNARE complex and thereby attenuating neurotransmitter vesicle release at the neuromuscular junction.
The parent hexapeptide was shown to inhibit SNARE-complex formation and catecholamine release in vitro, and reduced wrinkle depth by up to 30% in a 30-day topical study 1. SNAP-8 was subsequently developed as a more potent extension of the same sequence.
